Since being introduced in 2023, Bendix’s Ultimate 4WD™ Electric Secondary Park Brake (EPB) for 76, 78 and 79 LandCruisers, has become a popular upgrade for owners and fleet operators looking to eliminate ‘roll aways’ on steep hills.

Bendix adds Can Bus to Secondary Park Brake 1

Bendix’s upgraded Ultimate 4WD™ Electric Secondary Park Brake for 76, 78 and 79 LandCruisers has been upgraded and now features CanBus for additional safety and functionality.

Bendix has now further improved the package by adding CanBus integration, leading to additional safety and functionality benefits for drivers who opt for the kit.

The new CanBus feature allows the EPB to automatically actuate under certain situations such as when any cabin door is open (with speed below 10 km/h), when the engine is turned off and when the vehicle is placed in ‘park’ in the case of GDJL auto variants. As an extra safety precaution to minimise accidental release of the park brake, the EPB cannot be released unless the brake foot pedal is pressed.

The new CanBus feature allows the EPB to automatically actuate under certain situations such as when any cabin door is open (with speed below 10 km/h), when the engine is turned off and when the vehicle is placed in ‘park’ (GDJL auto).

As with its predecessor, the upgrade offers complete ‘bolt-on’ fitment – and complements the existing OE park brake – which means there’s no change to the vehicle’s hydraulic mechanism, pad shape and original park brake; this maintains the vehicle’s ADR-compliance.

To provide its additional holding power, the Bendix EPB uses single piston calipers that act on the rear disc brake rotors. Also included is the wiring loom, electronic control module, attractive OEM style control switch for dashboard installation and one pair of DB1200 Ultimate 4WD™ Brake Pads.

For owners of the original EPB, the CanBus component can be purchases separately and retrofitted to their existing Ultimate 4WD™ EPB.

Installing the EPB is a straightforward process for a mechanic or brake technician with detailed installation guidelines provided. And when it comes to servicing, the EPB features a ‘service mode’ to wind back the EPB allowing for brake pad change – there is a card detailing this process provided within each kit. There’s also good news for owners of the original EPB, because they can purchase the CAN as an add-on for their existing package.

Bendix’s upgraded Ultimate 4WD™ Electric Secondary Park Brake is available from leading four-wheel drive outlets and workshops in Australia and New Zealand.
